Sorry if this mentions some stuff you already know...
I use ActivePerl and ppm does make it very easy to install modules. The downside being that not all modules on CPAN have been successfully built: PPM Index The front page of CPAN has a link to Installing Perl Modules. But I've not been brave enough to attempt that myself. ;-) Hopefully a proper Monk can offer some more useful advice.
