I apologize for yesterday's downtime

by ambrus (Abbot)
on Nov 16, 2013 at 20:36 UTC ( #1062930=monkdiscuss: print w/ replies, xml ) Need Help??

For more than three hours yesterday, the Perlmonks website was broken: it was impossible to post any new writeup. It was me who caused this downtime by urging Corion to apply a particular pmdev patch I wrote, when that patch had a bug. I hereby apologize to all monks.

The details. The downtime lasted between approximately 2013-11-15 15:00 UTC to 2013-11-15 18:45 UTC. The patch was looksLikeSpam - (patch).

    ++ for the courage to acknowledge the guilt. I had to e-mail myself a reply I was not able to post to post it later.

    If you never made a mistake, you never made anything. Let's keep trying to improve.

    PS: don't worry, I enjoyed spaming the CB with blinking alerts! Thanks! ;)

    Lets hope looksLikeSpam does its job better now...

      Like LanX I too enjoyed posting blinking text into the CB. But unlike LanX I didn't know when to stop.

      So I'd also like to take this opportunity to apologize to anyone I might have upset, as a result of my actions in the CB yesterday.

      Best wishes, and thanks, ambrus, for your efforts to improve the PerlMonks system. Even if things didn't work out, as planned.

      --Chris

      #!/usr/bin/perl -Tw
      use Perl::Always or die;
      my $perl_version = (5.12.5);
      print $perl_version;
        O dude, relax! =)

        Don't take this mixture of IT kindergarten and after-work-party here too serious. ;-)

        Just be careful to always deeply respect your mother!

        Cheers Rolf

      "INTO THE LAKE WITH WEIGHTS TIED TO YOUR FEETS!"

      Only valid for monks from Switzerland. ambrus is from Hungary.

      Perhaps better some Pálinka for free for all monks?

      Regards, Karl

    There's a saying I've heard among small-craft (less than 50 feet) sailors: "If you haven't run aground, you haven't been around."

      Ha! I noticed too yesterday and almost commented the same thing. Don't know about the rest of the world but in the US talking your way out of responsibility is high art and it's so refreshing to have owernship backed apology instead we tend to get pretty ++y.

      Better apologize immediately for this post!

      Cheers Rolf
