Are old obfus gone forever?

by Schmunzie (Beadle)
on Mar 20, 2015 at 00:39 UTC ( [id://1120678]=obfuscated: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

Years ago, with a previous account (no idea of my name then) I posted an obfu of which I was immensely proud. The code was in the shape of an ornate grand-father clock, complete with pendulum and the output was the current time (to the nearest 12 mins) on an ASCII analogue clock face.

I would love to see it again.

    What time is it?

Probably not it. You might have to remember something about it that is better suited for searching. Or use super search yourself where you might recognize the title and/or author much easier.

Thank you. That's not it but at least I now know it ought to be here... somewhere. Let's just hope I gave it a sensible name.

Let's just hope I gave it a sensible name.

You aren't restricted to searching on just the name. You can search on contents as well. And, unlike most sensible search engines, you can even search on arbitrary strings. For example, if you remember that your pendulum included "(*)", then you can search for that. I searched for obfu nodes that used code like "time(" or "localtime" (and clicked on the ones that had names that didn't seem to contradict the idea of a polished obfu of a clock).

Just search your old email repositories for messages from a certain "vroom" saying "Welcome to PerlMonks." and you'll find your old username again. ;-)

    HTH! :)

    PS: Je suis Charlie!

That'll be on hard drive in a landfill site.
I'm sure the gods can identify your account when you /msg them your old email address.

Found it!! Woo hoo. So happy to see an old friend again.

    When JAPH Retires

Thanks for all your help, everyone.

Since I've already voted on your obfu I must have seen it before, yet didn't remember it. :( Probably when I was writing The Top Ten Perl Obfus because I had to view (and up-vote) a LOT of old obfus in order to identify the top ten.

I see you warmed up the day before with When a PERL Hacker Retires which just prints a fixed clock face of JAPH letters without using localtime.

When super searching, tye and I no doubt did not bother to click on your obfu because of the inscrutable node title When JAPH retires (v 2.0).

      The positions on your clock face are not numbered 1..12, but, more imaginatively, (J u s t A n o t h e r P e r l H a c k e r), a delightful touch that explains the subtle node title and the 100+ node rep. Well done, and thanks for finding this classic obfu.
