in reply to "I've reaped your node" Message

Another instance of this just occurred. As before, I selected "reap" and this appeared in the Chatterbox (verbatim):

You said "I've reaped your node [id://1150733]. Reason: [[hippo]]: Abusive " to ralph2014

I checked in Message Inbox (which I hadn't thought to do when this first happened) and, constraining to:

Showing messages [X]From [ ]To kcott ([ ]not) in folders [ ]Inbox () [ ]Archive (162) [X]Deleted (1) constrain by content: [ ] and/or by user [ ]

I see one message (again, verbatim):

told root Reaped node at: Reaped: Re^12: threads, forks and SSH because [hippo]: Abusive

Is anyone looking into this? If so, is this additional information useful? Would any other information be helpful?

    1. Whatever code that generates the [[stevieb]] part, was probably intended to generate a link to the monk who initially posted the consideration
    [...]
    3. Update: Whatever code that generates the [id://1149099] part, was probably intended to generate a link also.

    then

I see one message (again, verbatim):
told root Reaped node at: Reaped: Re^12: threads, forks and SSH because [hippo]: Abusive

And, as you can now see, they both did.

    2. While I was one of the monks who considered this for reaping (and I don't really have any problem being identified as such), I didn't actually reap the node. Perhaps the message should, more accurately, identify NodeReaper as the one doing the reaping.

root is not fooled into thinking that you were solely responsible for the reaping.

I selected "reap" and this appeared in the Chatterbox (verbatim):
You said "I've reaped your node [id://1150733]. Reason: [[hippo]]: Abusive " to ralph2014

Back to (1) and (3) above, this message is meant to show you what you typed. But it would probably be better to show you how what you typed will look (modulo a couple of rendering details that can vary between viewing users).

The bigger problem is that it says that the message was sent to the node's author. As you discovered, a message from you was sent to root. The message that was sent to the author was sent from NodeReaper.

So I see two problems that it would be nice for someone from pmdev to look into. The second problem could be addressed by changing the order in which the messages are sent so that you'd be shown the one sent to root from you. Perhaps a slightly better (but less trivial) fix would be to change the "You" to "NodeReaper". Or perhaps the best fix (another simple one) would be to not notify you of either message (and just document these messages in an appropriate place).

Thanks for your response and analysis of the problem (with potential fixes).

It looks like nothing further is needed from me; however, if anyone from pmdev does need more information, just ask.
