When I take the bother to vote on someone's post; I'd like to know they're going to benefit from that
It seems to me you're making the rookie mistake of thinking that an upvote (or downvote) on a post is also a vote on the user who posted it. They are not so tied. This is exactly why we emphatically assign different terms to the two quantities -- reputation and XP, respectively. I'll quote the relevant FAQ here:
What is reputation?
Each writeup (user-posted node) has a numeric reputation, which is a (very unreliable)
indicator of the PerlMonks community's collective estimation of the writeup.
A writeup's reputation is simply the sum of the up-votes and down-votes which that node has received.
So, for example, if 5 monks voted ++ on a node and 3 other monks voted -- on it,
then that node's reputation would be 2.
Please remember that only nodes have a quantitative reputation; users do not.
Each registered monk has experience points, a distinct quantity which is determined, only in part, from
the up-votes and down-votes which his/her writeups have received. Read Voting/Experience System for the gory details.
(Of course, everyone has real reputation and real experience, but
PerlMonks makes no attempt to quantify these. :-)

I reckon we are the only monastery ever to have a dungeon stuffed with 16 ,000 zombies.

No, I was pretty much on point. Nobody is going to get what they "deserve". I would support (as if anybody is listening to me) a more representative statistic, but let's not fool ourselves.
Perhaps it's a cultural thing, but when I hear people say "XP is meaningless" I don't take it as "that number is not representative of my actual contribution" but rather "I don't care about the number, accurate or not, because I don't do it to get credit." Good thing, too. Unlike the unfair restaurant which takes part of the tip and gives it to the undeserving, here we just chuck the money/votes down the drain/bitbucket.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 (NASB)

Everyone agrees -- at least, say they agree
I have never said this and I have said the opposite before, like that I don't like SO because I can't downvote comments. I think XP is fun and encourages participation.
You are the highest rated monk with, reportedly, the fastest XP accumulation and you are here to say you're not valued, or not valued rightly, in this system. The XP you've accumulated is vaguely real. The only system that is more real involves cash. Personally I'd love to see a site where an upvote cost 2¢ (to the poster) and a downvote cost 5¢ (split to charities or server fees to avoid needing ads, perhaps).
