"Ethical" ? Please... What's so unethical about a marketing medium? It's not hurting anyone, doing a lot less damage to the environment as bulk postal mail and probably uses up a lot less cheap labour of delivering them too. Nothing illegal about spamming either. Jeebus, would you quit your job if you didn't agree with the colour the painted the bathroom walls?

You are wrong that it isn't hurting anyone. Spam takes up bandwidth, disk space and time - without the sending paying for it. If you believe it isn't hurting anyone, you don't know the mechanics involved. And spamming might not be illegal everywhere, but that's irrelevant. Ethical is not the same as to stay within the margins of the law.

I wouldn't quit my job because of the colour of the bathroom walls, but I have quit my previous job (and taken a 25% cut in pay) because I strongly disagreed with the way management was acting.

I'd quit if my boss decided to go into the spamming business; or if the company I worked for started dealing in weapons. I've my views on what's good and what's right.

Do a google search on "Abigail's Oath".

If that comes with your resume, I would never ever ever hire you. I don't want to hire someone who's going to do something, then turn around jump on the table and dance "I TOLD YOU SO". I want someone who works with the company, not against it.
If working with the company means "shut up and do as you were told", I don't even want to be hired by you. I'm not hired as a slave - I'm hired for my expertise.

There's no point in hiring expertise and then ignoring it. IF that's your practice, then might be interested in trading in your dog for some barking lessons.

Okay you lot, get your wings on the left, halos on the right. It's one size fits all, and "No!", you can't have a different color.
Pick up your cloud down the end and "Yes" if you get allocated a grey one they are a bit damp under foot, but someone has to get them.
Get used to the wings fast cos its an 8 hour day...unless the Govenor calls for a cyclone or hurricane, in which case 16 hour shifts are mandatory.
Just be grateful that you arrived just as the tornado season finished. Them buggers are real work.

This person seems to have missed the point of the phrase "places I don't want to work at anyway."

A company that wouldn't hire someone because that person had a stated commitment to be ethical is clearly not an ethical company. Even if they hadn't done anything wrong yet, they'd be tacitly acknowledging that they weren't willing to promise that they wouldn't.

It's like telling someone you're interested in dating that, if they cheat on you, you'll break up with them and tell all your friends. If the person says "Oh, well, I don't want to go out with you then," you've just discovered the easy way that they're unethical - or at least unable to promise to be ethical - and not someone you'd want to be in a relationship with anyway. (Well, I wouldn't want to.)
