This person seems to have missed the point of the phrase "places I don't want to work at anyway."

A company that wouldn't hire someone because that person had a stated commitment to be ethical is clearly not an ethical company. Even if they hadn't done anything wrong yet, they'd be tacitly acknowledging that they weren't willing to promise that they wouldn't.

It's like telling someone you're interested in dating that, if they cheat on you, you'll break up with them and tell all your friends. If the person says "Oh, well, I don't want to go out with you then," you've just discovered the easy way that they're unethical - or at least unable to promise to be ethical - and not someone you'd want to be in a relationship with anyway. (Well, I wouldn't want to.)
