A call for cblast35 mirrors

by crazyinsomniac (Prior)
on Dec 03, 2002 at 17:27 UTC ( #217286=monkdiscuss: print w/ replies, xml ) Need Help??

From time to time, http://perlmonk.org experiences technical difficulties, and my live demo of cblast35 goes down in some way, so it'd be nice to have mirrors to offer to people.

I'll post the links at cblast35, so how about it, who's brave enough to run it ? ;)

Thanx

I have some spare bandwidth I can share... so I'm in :)

update: the uptime of the server is %99.99, cblast35's uptime will depend on the level of bandwidth used, but I don't think it will use a lot, so that figure is most likely what the uptime will be.

Update 2: ok done. Here's the link
    http://209.15.63.121/cgi-bin/perlmonks/cblast35.cgi

    Update 3: (January 22, 2003)
    server discontinued,
    mirror broken :(

    Update 4: (February 2, 2003) New mirror at http://209.15.115.34/cgi-bin/perlmonks/cblast35.cgi :)

This version rocks. Not only is the server responding very fast, but also it got rid of those ugly annoying and unnecessary textareas. One problem with those is that the browser, when you ask to reload the page, may refuse to refresh the contents of those input fields. The idea behind this is, of course, for you to retain any edits you have made before.

One minor problem: the server clock must be off a bit. It's 13:28 CET now (12:28 GMT), and your clock says Pacific Time is 11:51:37. I have no idea what time zone that is... but at least, the minute count surely cannot be right.

You can always check your clock settings at this site.

Hmm... A feature I'd like, perhaps when I set up my own mirror, is to represent the time in the user's own localtime. So, where's your source? :-)

well, that version is actually not mine, this is blakem's code...

however, I have set up another XHTML version with a different look at
http://209.15.63.121/cgi-bin/perlmonks/cblast35x.cgi (mirror broken) which is basically a cleanup of blakem's version.

here is the source of cblast35x.cgi

I've got a cblast mirror set up... it has a slightly different interface (I've attempted to parse some of the pm specific markup in the feed) so it isn't a true mirror, but you are free to use it.

Update: changed date format as requested

    -Blake

Thanks. That mark-up is actually accessible from my WAP phone (the original cblast35 confused the HTML-to-WML gateway with the unnamed textarea form fields) and is easier to read (I never have to scroll an individual chunk of text).

Update: Please don't use MM/DD/YY format for dates. It is pretty confusing in many regions of the world. YYYY-MM-DD is the international standard for good reason.

              - tye

I have also experienced problems with WAP phones (I am using google's HTML->WML gateway) when surfing sites built on everything engine. It is not that bad living without perlmonks on my mobile phone, but not being able to access everything2.com is really sad.

A bit late to the party but I have to say your version rocks. Thanks!

      Makeshifts last the longest.

I have a modified cblast35 running at http://nbpfaus.net/~pfau/cblast35.cgi. This version has been modified to track chatterboxes on multiple sites. It is currently watching PM and JavaJunkies.

Please be merciful. I only have a DSL connection.

Update: I shut down this mirror a while ago due to site load and the fact that I'm also running the cbhistory mirror.
