Hi Monks,

I have just released version 0.2 of ibmonitor

Here is a brief summary

ibmonitor is an interactive linux console application
(a perl script!) which shows bandwidth consumed and
total data transferred on all interfaces.

Its main features are:
  • Shows received, transmitted and total bandwidth of each interface
  • Calculates and displays the combined value of all interfaces
  • Values can be displayed in Kbits/sec(Kbps) and/or KBytes/sec(KBps)
  • Can show maximum bandwidth consumed on each interface since start of utility
  • Can show average bandwidth consumption on each interface since start of utility
  • The output with all features (max, avg and display in Kbps and KBps) easily fits on a 80x24 console or xterm
  • Can interactively change output display format

Looks very neat. Do you have examples of practical application of this tool? At my work, we have Big Sister monitor tracking our front end web servers on various system parameters. It generates clear html status pages and emails responsible parties on any critical errors/values. However, the monitor doesn't include the bandwidth variable. ;/

    # Under Construction

ibmontor is supposed to be more of an "at the moment" kind
of application (whatever that means) :-)

It does not save any data. It just shows whats happening
      at that moment

Although, I have future plans to make it run as a daemon,
and save its data, so that other utilities, like a CGI script
could get relevant data from ibmonitor (by some kind of IPC),
and then output some nice HTML page
      Thanx for replying!
