Put Inbox on bottom of CB nodelet?

I really dislike having my Message Inbox sitting on top of the CB. The reason it is a problem for me is that I like to keep an eye on the CB but I also tend to leave messages in my inbox as reminders of nodes that I want to go back and respond to or upvote or whatever. As my inbox is long, I find I have to scroll down the page to observe the CB. This is a real pain, especially when I am having a conversation.

My first thought was that maybe we should have separate nodelets for the inbox and the CB. I understand that there is an overlap in functionality, though, as private /msgs go to your inbox.

My next thought is that it might be preferable to simply put the inbox below the CB in the nodelet. I think this would have a couple of advantages. First, it would eliminate the problem I've described above. Second, new messages would appear directly below the CB's input, so it would be easier to see the message you are responding to as you respond.

As always, I'm making a suggestion without any idea how hard it would be to implement it but I imagine it wouldn't be too hard as it would probably just be a formatting change. Perhaps it could even be configurable in our User Settings.

If anyone contemplates a patch to do this, please make it configurable. I prefer to see personal messages on top as I tend to reply to them right away and either remove or archive them. If the personal messages are at the bottom, I'll be less likely to know I have new personal messages.

I'd like to split the Chatterbox in two nodelets: Chatterbox and Messages (maybe there are better names). In this way, one can put his Message Inbox where he wants, no matter where the Chatterbox is.

Since I'm talking about this kind of things, I'd also like a User setting that allows one to use the checkboxes near the private messages to mark them for archiving, instead of deleting. Do you think it could be useful?

but I also tend to leave messages in my inbox as reminders of nodes that I want to go back and respond to or upvote or whatever

If that is the only reason to leave messages there, maybe you could use the "Personal Nodelet" instead? Takes only one click to add a node to it, and then you can delete them again via your user settings when done.

That said, I am not in any way against such a change, especially if it is configurable as suggested. Just thought I'd share how I keep track of nodes.
