Welcome to the world of expanding online communities!
Seriously, as Perl gets used by ever-increasing diverse communities, more opinions will be formed with less information, and from more varied viewpoints. As these opinions clash, you'll get discussion, sometimes heated outbursts. The result is usually a healthy exchange of viewpoints, and an occasional flame war. I don't see anything wrong with that. I've lobbed as many grenades over the years as have been lobbed at me. Sometimes I even manage to do it politely. {grin} But the result is usually that the individual darkness is overcome by the shared light (with a varying amount of heat, depending on the chemical reaction). That's a good thing. The craft of programming is a community event. I welcome The Monastery as a place to hold those community events. In fact, in my nearly 30 years of being online, this is one of the best. -- Randal L. Schwartz, Perl hacker
