How nice!
I was going to write something like this today. Thanks!
Update:
I've got something intresting:
my %state_code =
(
'1' => 'stopped.',
'2' => 'start pending.',
'3' => 'stop pending.',
'4' => 'running.',
'5' => 'continue pending.',
'6' => 'pause pending.',
'7' => 'paused.'
);

Yes, smart people know that fat arrow autoquotes the left argument. But why should you require your code to be maintained by smart people?

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
