Feature announcement: XP Quips

by theorbtwo (Prior)

Allo, all. There's a fun new feature: XP Quips. Go to user settings, and find the checkbox marked "Show quips on XP loss/gain messages". If you turn this on, you'll get fun little quips in the XP nodlet when you gain or loose XP. If you're too fragle to deal with a little automated fun mocking, then keep the checkbox off, and live without that little bit of humor.

Oh, and if you think lots of the messages are too harsh, turn off the checkbox. If there's one or two you disagree with, or find disagreeable, then reply to this message, and we'll consider... or, of course, if you think we missed a real hum-dinger, let us know... also by replying to this message.

Replies are listed 'Best First'.

Just tested it out (had to burn a few votes to do it - please pardon the wanton abuse of the voting system). I got this message:

    Callo, callay, oh frabjous day!

My research (source) shows it should be:

    O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!

Hooray for who, for who, for ???? He saved his friend from a wetting.

Feel free to up-vote this node.

Just so I can see a positive message to make sure it works properly. I promise to report a bug if it doesn't ;)

      Go vote isntead. woops ;P

Update: Doesn't seem to work that way. Nevermind. ;)

Then B.I. said, "Hov' remind yourself nobody built like you, you designed yourself"

    I like it!
But I'm not so sure about castaway (see her Voting system idea..) because it creates yet annother reason to vote without no reason (or just to see the next quip).

      I like it too.

There's already enough reason to vote with reason...
Just ask me if you're in doubt ;-) =)

      Cheers, Sören

This seems to work correctly (showing a quip) when I gain experience through the act of voting.

But when I return the the site after having gained XP because others have upvoted my node(s) I see no quip, just the 'you have gained x XP'.

Is this a bug, or a deliberate omission?

I only see the normal "You gained ..."

update: now I gained a point for this node, and I saw it =) =)

Yay! I was saddened when the quips were taken away.

[shmem]: well I use I2C and SPI and stuff, but creating a pseudo chip looks to me like lot of indirection and memory clutter... not?
[choroba]: Are you going to use the device soon? Related to your comment about "not having much time to do a lot of coding"...
[stevieb]: sure, but I'm just learning ;) I consider it practice to get a good understanding of what goes on *after* an I2C/SPI request is made
[shmem]: ah ok. Gonna read that. but now....
shmem compiles himself into his template
[stevieb]: this is my RPi:: distribution overall automation build system physical layout. It doesn't encompass all of my RPi dists yet, ...
[stevieb]: ...but I'm getting close. I've been soldering my own PCBs to gain that experience as well, before I have my own manufactured.
[stevieb]: heh, nice *template* ;) 'night shmem!
