What is this weather thing I keep hearing about?
I live in Seattle, the sun scares me! And I'm happy living in fear

Everything I've learned in life can be summed up in a small perl script!
What is this weather thing I keep hearing about?

You will only experience this if you live in or visit a community that has a really big room. *Really* big. In particular, the ceiling needs to be hundreds or even thousands of meters from the floor. What happens in a room of that size, then, is that convection currents can create warmer and cooler regions in the room, as well as regions that are more or less humid. At that point, a phenomenon occurs wherein, as a result of these localized variations, a natural form of circulation can occur (much like the breeze a fan creates, but without the fan), and in some cases, if the humidity differential is high enough, you can get condensation in mid-air, which will result in small droplets of moisture falling down toward the floor from higher up in the room. This is weather.

Where I live, we only have one room anywhere near big enough to experience weather, but I just happen to walk through it each day on my way to work. This room is so enormous, it even has significant periodic variations in the weather that we call "seasons". For instance, right now it's about 80F in the big room, but some times of year it gets down as low as -20F in there.

The Vehicle Assembly building at the Kennedy Space Centre is large enough to have it's own weather!

The VAB's interior volume is so vast that it has its own weather system—NASA employees report that rain clouds form below the ceiling on very humid days.

(Hope the joke isn't too tasteless, this year. For the record, an invasion to implement an arab democracy is IMHO a potentially good thing. If done well.)

Three days in a row out of the office?

You mean if there's a holiday next to a weekend you go to work anyway?

Yes. When I say "Out of the Ofiice" I mean not working. I can work from home... sometimes... but I have not gone three days without working in longer than I can remember.

I absolutely hate "good" weather. (Assuming this is what is subjectively defined as "good".)

Next time maybe in Zermatt, Chamanoix, or Kaprun please? Someplace with snow.

The only reason I shell out to fly to Europe from NY is to snowboard on glaciers in the Alps. You give me an excuse to do that and you'll have to beat me away with a stick.

I know that Merlyn is into Carribean cruises - but some of us like the other eXtreme... (& that's not a dig - I'm just being honest)

Wait! This isn't a Parachute, this is a Backpack!
I know that Merlyn is into Carribean cruises
Perhaps you've missed that about one cruise in four goes up north, to Alaska. I've helicoptered onto a glacier, trouncing around in waist-high snow.

My home page also shows me taking second place at the US National Competition for GS Racing (in my category, of course), and until I started running out of both time and money, I was a 35-day-per-year snowboarder.

Yes, I like warm, but I also like cold too, when I'm prepared for it.

      Amen! Preach it, brother!

I, too, hate weather that approaches within a few degrees of body temperature. It makes me want to go lie down in a snowbank, except there obviously aren't any in that kind of weather. I've had just about enough summer for one year, and am looking forward to the advent of *decent* weather (by which I mean, obviously, weather cool enough that the snow isn't all soggy and melty and nasty).

It's not proper winter unless the snow crunches and squeaks under your feet and then continues to blow around in the breeze, no matter how many times you walk on it.

The next Austrian Perl Workshop might happen in/near Innsbruck with the possibility to tack on a weekend of snowboarding... But things aren't decieded yet.

Alas, during that time I'll be enjoying a wonderful road trip from Ontario west through Alberta. Two weeks of driving, being a tourist, visiting relatives, swimming across small unpolluted lakes, and other miscellanious enjoyment. It'll be a blast, just like last year.

Good luck to all you at YAPC Europe, have tons of fun! I know you'll enjoy the good weather, good fun, good Perl, and especially the cheap beer!

I can already program anything I need in Perl. Why would I spend money to fly to a different country for a seminar on Perl? One of Perl's main advantages is that it's free.
I just wanted to point out how utterly mindboggling this post was. Is it perhaps a joke?
