Well, no. PerlMongers is meant to advocate Perl, and assist local Perl User groups. PerlMongers does nothing for the guy in
Fooville, and the guy in Barstown, which are 3 miles apart, and get them together unless there happens to be a PM group there. And, from
experience, getting a PM group going is a PITA. If in this proposed section PerlMonger groups want to post meeting times/place, great.. if someone
from Fooville wants to find others on PerlMonks who are around Fooville, this would be an appropriate section for them to do so.
So, to answer you question.. No. Do you have any good reasons why this type of section isn't a good idea? Because local newspapers have Personal sections?
A website, meant to promote a community feel, somehow isn't a good place to foster people getting together?
Everyone should use PerlMongers to meet other Perl hackers in their area?

This does not only apply to people in isolated places. For instance despite living in a large city with an active PM section, I am not part of PM.
Why not?
Because they hold meetings in a part of the city that is
inconvenient for me to get to, typically at places I don't
enjoy being, at times when it is inconvenient for me to go
there. (I don't drink or smoke and I have asthma. Care to
guess how interested I generally am in going to bars?)
When interesting stuff rolls through town I often
will show up, but since I have not gotten to know people in
the local PM section, I am not that interested in meeting them.
However in a bit under a month the LinuxWorld Expo will be coming to town. I expect that to bring some people from
PerlMonks. Since I actually know people here, I
would be interested in knowing where and when meetings
will take place.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound so terse.
You are, of course, absolutely right. There's no reason
why people should use postings here to meet with each other.
Hey, perhaps if a large enough group find they're working
close together then it could form into a new Perl Mongers
group.

I'll just point out that Perl Monger groups don't have to be geographically focused. (Ref: AOL.pm and MarsNeedsWomen.pm) Perhaps there should be a PerlMonks.pm? (Or PM.pm for short.) :)

I'll give the details for the mailing list and such in a few days. PerlMonks.pm should be alive sometime next week.
