Mysteriously Changing Font

gods, devils, and fellow users,
On 4 separate occasions while surfing PM, the font and look of the site has changed for no apparent reason. I have tried to no avail to force a reload on the suggestion that perhaps the CSS failed to finish loading. I am able to remedy the problem by opening a new tab, logging into one of the alternate domain names and closing the original tab. I am using FireFox 1.04.

I have heard a few other uses in the CB mention something similar but I do not know how widespread it is. Does anyone know what's going on?

Update (2006-07-11): I am now using FF 1.5.0.4 and just experienced the problem again with no reasonable explanation?

Cheers - L~R

Its a DNS issue. I don't know why (probably for browser caching benefits), but currently the CSS looks like
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="http://perlmonks.org/css/common.css" type +="text/css" /> <link rel="stylesheet" href="?node_id=6181" type="text/css" />
If you're not using perlmonks.org, and you have some kind of DNS timeout, hitting refresh in your browser will probably resolve your current domain, but won't resolve perlmonks.org, so css/common.css won't load.

update: I started getting lots of DNS issues like this on a WinXP machine after putting it to sleep (used to work fine, but some update broke something %-p). The workaround is to restart the "DNS Client" service (services.msc) after hibernating.

    I run a Win32 PPM repository for perl 5.6.x and 5.8.x -- I take requests (README).

      PodMaster,
Thanks for the insight. Unfortunately I am using perlmonks.org which works fine other than the mysteriously messing up CSS. This happens when I am actively browsing the site (ok, I admit it - when I am chatting in the CB).

      Cheers - L~R

I've experienced the same while using perlmonks.org. Its still just some kind of timeout. The browser just fails to fetch the css for whatever reason, a refresh generally fixes it :/

Don't know what's going on, but began experiencing this -- as best I recall - about 60 days ago, in a time when devs were working on refactoring some of the rendering... and maybe tweaking .css

Doesn't happen often, but still see it occasionally...

Occurs in all these under W2k: FF 1.5.0.2, Moz 1.7.8 *and* IE 6.0.28nnnn; don't remember seeing it on Konqueror on Linux

Just to add another datapoint: I don't recall seeing this ever on Safari (pretty much all ever use; latest greatest all patched up version whatever that is)
