in thread I mostly sleep...
'Everybody says "Sleep when the baby sleeps"'
As any parent will tell you, this is impossible: babies only sleep when their parents are awake. The only way around this is to have the grandparents come over, and go to a hotel. This only works with grandparents. Aunts, uncles, cousins, and unrelated baby sitters do not have this magical property.
Of course, when the parents come back the baby, being well rested, is once again prepared to keep his or her parents awake. And God help those who have twins, triplets, or any other multiples. Then, the babies switch back and forth so they're not sleep-deprived by keeping mom and dad up.
At that time the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.
