Yes, my perl is 5.8.8: The test script segfaults as per your example. However: I now have two Safe.pm's: 2.14 is in /usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.8/Safe.pm 2.15 is in /usr/lib/perl/5.8.8/Safe.pm @INC is: I'm not sure why there is a discrepancy (no difference in Makefile.PL between the two versions), although I installed 2.14 via the CPAN shell, and 2.15 via bash. When I upgrade the test script to 'use lib qw(/usr/lib/perl)' before 'use Safe', it does not segfault and emits:
