I see no license for the code nor a link to one anywhere on that site. I do see a notice about acceptable use of the forums, but that's not the same thing at all.
Update: I now have found the license, but there's still no link to the license itself from the main page footer. I had to click on the link for the version of the CMS running the site, which opened a hidden div, which then had a link to the license in it. IME, most open source projects have a direct and prominent link to the license as part of the main site navigation, in the footer of every page, on an about the project page, or in the project's FAQ. For examples, look at http://apache.org/, http://www.postgresql.org/docs/faqs.FAQ.html, http://www.perl.org/about.html. The license should at least be prominently displayed or linked to in the downloads section. Clicking on the version info for the current release normally goes to a "changes " or "what's new" section, and not a license document.
Now that I've found the license, I see it is a decent one. Maybe could've stuck with GPL or BSD, but the one you have isn't bad. I'll move "license" to the "pros" column. It could be more intuitive to find on the site, though.
BTW, if I check out "WebAPP" on Freshmeat, it's listed as GPL and a project called "WebAPP NE" is listed as "Free to use but restricted". Your people might want to update the Freshmeat profile. | [reply] |
