Get it here! Perl DBD::Sybase 1.09 for Active State Perl 5.10 on Windows XP/Vista/7 32bit

Assuming that you installed Sybase OpenClient 15.5 from the 15.5 PC Client:

Install ActiveState Perl from http://www.activestate.com (free) and install DBI if it isnít already installed.  It should be but you never knowÖ

  1. Start -> ActiveState Perl -> Perl Package Manager
  2. install DBI
  3. exit

Now, the easy part.  Install the DBD::Sybase 1.09 PPM:

  1. download DBD::Sybase 1.09 PPM
  2. extract zip file to temporary directory (e.g. c:\test)
  3. Start -> Run -> cmd.exe (as Administrator if Vista or Windows 7)
  4. cd \test
  5. ppm install DBD-Sybase.ppd
  6. exit

Thatís it :)

Jason, I get a ppm install failed: The PPD does not provide code to install for this platform. Any ideas what is wrong?

Most likely, that means that your Perl is not Active State Perl 5.10 on Windows XP/Vista/7 32bit .

Look at the output of perl -v, and see whether it is Perl 5.10. For me, this outputs

This is perl 5, version 12, subversion 1 (v5.12.1) built for MSWin32-x +86-multi-thread Copyright 1987-2010, Larry Wall Perl may be copied only under the terms of either the Artistic License + or the GNU General Public License, which may be found in the Perl 5 source ki +t. Complete documentation for Perl, including FAQ lists, should be found +on this system using "man perl" or "perldoc perl". If you have access to + the Internet, point your browser at http://www.perl.org/, the Perl Home Pa +ge.

[holli]: i'm surprised it even executes. the server sends text/plain AND a content-dispositio n header
[holli]: this really really should not be executed as Javascript
erix's head is getting content indisposed
[holli]: maybe try a GET instead?
[moritz]: I must say, when I was very active on perlmonks, I got really used to the markup and all the workflows
[moritz]: and then I didn't post for a while, and then tried to answer a question. It nearly drove me nuts
[moritz]: when you try to quote part of a question, you have to know/guess/reverse -engineer what kind of markup they used
[holli]: see? https://imgur.com/ a/XpF4b
[moritz]: and stuff it into a <blockquote>...</ blockquote>, which is, like, not at all bulky
[moritz]: specially if you're used to markdown
