in reply to This year I'm most looking forward to ...

I think of the new year as nothing more than a day off. It's just some arbitrary date chosen to count solar revolutions. So, what's the big deal? I don't look forward to anything more today than i did yesterday.

Nonetheless, corporate budgets are also renewed on this date, and that means the possibility of new hires. Therefore, the way i see it, "A new job / career move" is the only choice with any real meaning here.

While you are technically correct (it's just another day), it nevertheless is the date when most people take some time to look back and to think what needs to be changed. So for those it's more than just another day.

And (at least in Germany) New Years Day is the end of the celebration-time, starting around Christmas. With much great food and more alcohol than in regular times. Thus for me "getting back in shape" is the first goal in this year. Especially as the whole family plans to participate in this event (german only).

Happy New Year to all of you! Rata

I've never understood why nobody celebrates New Month's Days? OK, so they're more frequent, but what if I only celebrate them one twelfth as much?

I've never understood why nobody celebrates New Month's Days?

Because it's a solar calendar. Month's are merely a convenience. That would be like celebrating a new hour because it's more often than a day.

People who use the lunar calendar, however, do celebrate each new month. And considering there's a few billion of those people, it gets its fair share.
