RIP, Tad McClellan

You may know Tad from his frequent contributions to comp.lang.perl.misc. That also got my attention, and I hired him at Stonehenge in 1999 to be one of my trainers during the dot-com boom, and later entrusted him with managing the logistics of our on-site trainings. He later took on the role of being one of the comp.lang.perl.moderated moderators as well.

Tad lost his battle with lung cancer last Sunday. I had known about his illness for about six months, and had spoken to him about a month ago. At that time, he had said things weren't going well, but he was still hopeful.

His obituary says the services are today. I'm in the wrong city for that, unfortunately. There's also a guest book there if you want to add a note.

Rest in piece, my friend. 55 years for you was far too young.

My name is Jessica, daughter of Tad McClellan. I was googling his name and came across this. My family and I appreciate this so much because he knew so many people and this way they are all informed about what happened. My mother especially wanted me to tell you thank you so much.

I wish that I had found out sooner because I would have attended his funeral. Tad made work more fun and interesting. He always had a joke or funny story to share.

    I'm sad to hear that.

I first came across comp.lang.perl.misc in 1999 and I remember him as one of the most frequent posters.

I got to chat with Tad a little bit at the last Perl Conferences in Monterrey. He was a good guy and he will be missed.

I'm sorry for your loss, and the loss to the Perl community. Prayers for his friends and family.

This is really nuts. I'm in shock. I worked with Tad on some programs for real estate locally. We worked together for several years. He was honest and brilliant. He played a key role in my business and life that that will impact me forever. -Chandler
