Actually, it helps. As I wean myself away from the constant caffeine drip, I find that I have less trouble being awake those few, horrid times when I have no available caffeine.
Of course, in my preferred caffeine intake format, I'm probably getting more boost from the theophylene than caffeine. Not only that, but tea comes in lots of !caffeinated formats too, so I can still drink nice hot beverages and not give myself a caffeine headache.
