Sorry fruiture, could you explain your point a bit more.

I have read your post 3 times and keep wanting to react to it, but I'm sure I'm missing the salient point.

I get lost right around "...a registry of all members of all instances...". Don't all members of a given class have the same members? And isn't the point of OO that one class should not know (nor care) what members another class has, related or not.

I know C++ has that "freind" declaration, but I think even Stroustrup admitted afterwards that the whole private/protected/friend/public/static stuff was a mistake.

"...you'll see that if you write accessor methods for the same member with different names in two related classes..."

How can you have "the same member" in "two ... classes", related or not?

Okay you lot, get your wings on the left, halos on the right. It's one size fits all, and "No!", you can't have a different color.
Pick up your cloud down the end and "Yes" if you get allocated a grey one they are a bit damp under foot, but someone has to get them.
Get used to the wings fast cos its an 8 hour day...unless the Govenor calls for a cyclone or hurricane, in which case 16 hour shifts are mandatory.
Just be grateful that you arrived just as the tornado season finished. Them buggers are real work.

Title:
Use:  <p> text here (a paragraph) </p>
and:  <code> code here </code>
to format your post; it's "PerlMonks-approved HTML":

  • Are you posting in the right place? Check out Where do I post X? to know for sure.
  • Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
    <code> <a> <b> <big> <blockquote> <br /> <dd> <dl> <dt> <em> <font> <h1> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> <h6> <hr /> <i> <li> <nbsp> <ol> <p> <small> <strike> <strong> <table> <td> <th> <tr> <tt> <u> <ul>
  • Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
