in reply to Average number of caffeinated beverages per work day

(What, this poll is still up? :-)

My caffeine intake has fluctuated wildly in the past month or so. By late September, I was drinking probably six cups of coffee (the stronger the better) and six or eight cans of Coke a day. (This is explained by the fact that my company gives us free pop, and the coffee machine is five metres or so from my office.)

I figured that was a bit much, so I quit caffeine cold turkey, especially after hearing people who had stopped drinking caffeine gush about how much more energy they had. That went on for most of October. (And while I was grouchy for the first few days, I was not nearly as miserable as people had told me I would be.)

This weekend, I took a look back at four weeks or so without caffeine, and decided that I was happier with our favourite stimulant. I did not have gobs and gobs of excess energy. I was not finding it any easier to get up in the morning, or go to sleep at night. And I genuinely enjoy the taste of good coffee (no, decaffeinated just is not the same). So, I have started drinking coffee again. (I think I can do without the Coke, thanks. I do not miss it.)
