I often read the Hagakure, for no more reason than I liked the sound
of Forest Whitaker's voice reading passages in the film Ghostdog.

Here is a pertinent section I read the other day:

A person who is said to be proficient at the arts is like a fool.
Because of his foolishness in concerning himself with just one thing,
he thinks of nothing else and thus becomes proficient.
He is a worthless person.
A bit harsh perhaps, but I like it's blunt honesty.
