I am pleased to announce that this years YAPC::NA will be held in Boca Raton, Florida, USA. The CFP is online and we are ready to start getting your abstracts! Conference pre-registration will begin on Feb. 1 and last until June 9. As usual, space is limited so register early if you can.

More information is available on the YAPC::America website. Check there for updates, news, changes and details.

Cheers,
KM (lead organizer, YAPC::NA::2003)

    How are locations decided upon? I don't see anything on the YAPC site.

      People submit proposals for locations after I put up the announcement to submit venue proposals (this was done on Sept 21 '02). Then, we discuss pros and cons of each location and a location is decided on. The venue announcement was on yetanother.org, perlfoundation.org, use.perl.org and anywhere else that picked up the story.

      Cheers,
      KM

        I am so glad it's in Florida! Finally, a Perl event I don't have to get airline tickets for. So many of the events are on the West coast. What is it with Oregon and Perl hackers? Most of the major Perl events ignore Florida. The closest most of the Perl demigods ever get to Florida is on a geekcruise!

        Any insights onto what are the major selling points of a location? How much is the country considered? I know there was at least one in Canada, has there ever been a YAPC in Mexico? I'd also assume that suitable facilities would be essential but how much more of a bonus are the extras - ie bigger than necessary conference rooms, other attractions etc.

        Also what role do the local Perl groups/people play in it? Thanks.
