I don't know... Maybe that I am dreaming too much, but that discussion section is here for the dreams also, isn't it?

1. Perlmonks Logo: well, it does not look like there is a real Perlmonks logo out there. Yes, I have seen the t-shirts with the monks on them, but is that really a logo? Shall we just "extract" one monk from the t-shirt? If the answer to this question is "probably not", then why don't we ask the monks to show their creativity and artistic talent (or their fluency with Gimp or Photoshop :-) to come up with a beautiful logo? I think I would use that logo quite a lot, and it would allow me to recognize very fast the websites that are "PM friendly". This logo, I think, should refer somehow to Perl, the Camel, or something obvious - not just a Monk sitting and smoking crack.

2. Polling/Voting System: in the past, I have seen so many posts that have a question requiring a Yes/No answer, or a question where it would be nice to know what percentage of the monks in the monastery think like you. Because of that, wouldn't it be nice to have the option of using a polling system, just like the one that vroom manages on the right of the screen? It's just an idea. It could be actually managed by vroom HIM->self to avoid abuse, but the idea is to have a more "democratic" system before taking the decision of changing something or implementing a new feature, or simply for curiosity.

Let me know what you think.

Well, that's interesting. Seems that while you can put forms on your home node, you can't put them here. Bummer.

Oh, well, here's the survey I'd cooked up. Not really as funny without making the Submit button ++ this node. Incidentally, I hope this doesn't come across as critical of Gaggio... I think the ability to conduct our own polls would be pretty darned cool.

Tell Father Gaggio what you think!

    • <INPUT TYPE="radio" NAME="vote" VALUE="1">Brilliant! I want to be able to conduct polls of my own.
    • <INPUT TYPE="radio" NAME="vote" VALUE="1">No, I don't like this idea.
    • <INPUT TYPE="radio" NAME="vote" VALUE="1">Father Gaggio is on crack.
    • <INPUT TYPE="radio" NAME="vote" VALUE="1">What's wrong with monks smoking crack?
    • <INPUT TYPE="radio" NAME="vote" VALUE="1">I am a coder! I do not make graphics. Graphics are for the weak!
    • <INPUT TYPE="radio" NAME="vote" VALUE="1">Are you related to Father Guido Sarducci?
    • <INPUT TYPE="radio" NAME="vote" VALUE="1">My God... when will Petruchio learn to shut up???

    (This is where the submit button should have been) <FORM METHOD="POST" ACTION="/index.pl" ENCTYPE="application/x-www-form-urlencoded"> <INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="node_id" VALUE="38999"><INPUT type=hidden name=op value=vote> <INPUT type="hidden" name='vote__38999' value='1'> <INPUT TYPE="submit" NAME="sexisgreat" VALUE="Submit"> </FORM>

P.S. I suppose I should warn you to think twice about hitting submit...

"This logo, I think, should refer somehow to Perl, the Camel, or something obvious - not just a Monk sitting and smoking crack."

Actually I would get a kick out of this to no end.

Seriously, I like this idea...I think it is super. If at all possible it would be nice to have it be an icon of Monkage that is versatile in interpretation so that we can create new looking Monk logos while still being true to the original.

You hit the nail on the head, your suggestion for a polling system is a lot like my suggestion for... a polling system.

Hey, have a look at my Home Node. I have changed my image with my first attempt at PM new logo: a Monk Smoking Crack (but that refers to the Camel!!!)

Well, this is maybe a joke but I still think that we should organize a contest for a brand new and shiny PM logo.
