hate to tell u guys im a big fan of tangawizi but the word "tangawizi" doesn't mean ginger they got the name from the town Tanga just above Dar and Wizi means thief so i dont know how u got ginger but no worries kwahali

    While I don't speak Swahili, I do know how to use http://www.google.com. There is an overwhelming amount of evidence to suggest tangawizi does mean ginger. I am not suggesting that is where the name for the drink came from but obviously you should fact check better.

      Tangawiki is ginger in Kiswahili. It's actually 'kwaheri' not kwahari etc. Stoney tangawizi is essentially what's known as ginger beer in the big wide world. Look for Jamaican ginger beer and it's about the same thing. I think Coca Cola realised that you couldn't sell soda called 'beer' in Kenya and came up with some creative name to let folks know what indeed they were selling was just ginger soda.
