in thread YAPC::EU 2010... when exactly?

Sure, I can let the world know now. Quoting our proposal:

The conference theme is the Renaissance of Perl. This topic pays homage to Italy's role as the cradle of the Renaissance, and acknowledges how Perl is far from a dead legacy language, but is constantly being reborn with, for example, the parallel initiatives of Perl 6, and the Modern Perl 5 movement.

The conference theme is the Renaissance of Perl.
When will there be a Perl conference that actually does something with a theme? Giving a conference a 'theme' seems to have become popular the last couple of years, but to all the themed conferences I've been, I've never been able to look back afterwards and say "oh, yeah, the talk subjects1/key notes/special guests/hall decorations/goody bag/food/social events/auction/recommended hotel/whatever matched the theme". None of it ever does - conference themes are just hollow phrases.

So, will YAPC::EU::2010 be the next conference with a pointless theme, or do you plan to actually do something with the theme?

1No doubt there have been talks that happen to match that years' theme - but those talks would have been made and accepted if there wasn't a theme as well. For instance, any Perl6 talk could be considered to match "the Renaissance of Perl" theme. But without the theme, there will be Perl6 talks as well.
