esr has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I have a running Perl program that interacts with Microsoft Office in Windows using WIN32::OLE. There may be a need to run this in the Mac environment. Is there an equivalent package for the Mac?

    Shot in the dark: applescript?

Update: nope, or perhaps. I guess I need to stop shooting in the dark.

I know that Office products in the Mac environment do support and use OLE, but I am not aware of any Perl support for it at this time ... and it may well be that a CPAN module to do such a thing is needed.   I would be interested in contributing to such an effort, although I lack the depth of specialized technical knowledge that would be needed to properly architect it.
