Multiple Talk Buttons

There have always been problems with people typing /msh or /tel (or just forgetting them entirely) instead of the proper way of using /msg and /tell to send private messages to another monk. Recently, it seems this has increased: perhaps because the chatterbox is actually being used more often, perhaps because the monks are starting to actually know each other better. Regardless, a "msh slip" can cause, at best, a non-sequitur, and at worst, something really embarassing and causing bad feelings in our monastery.

I was wondering if a better way could be devised for sending private messages (or better, an additional way, without removing the current functionality). Perhaps a second button? Or better yet, a smaller separate box and/or text entry field below the common one? Other ideas welcome. Please, no flames about how all it takes is careful typing. Not everyone is perfect enough to never make a sinlge typo. ;)

I think the best solution would be to have the chatterbox by default ignore any line that starts with a '/' and only process commands it recognises, like '/msg' and '/tell'.

Of course this won't help those who forget a '/', but I think typos like /msh and /tel are way more common than the omission of a /.

I have always thought it would be good if "Everythings" chatterbox was
its own daemon that way network clients could be written for it, a web interface
could still be used etc etc, hey with the advention of flash5 you could do some really spiffy stuff
but Iam prolly wroung :)

You might want to look at Zzamboni's node. There are clients for the chatterbox...

I do think though that there should be a second button. (Just don't do away with /msh for those of us who insist on making mistakes ;)
