&lt;p&gt;Sidenote: before comparing characters or using them to build a hash, I'd call &lt;code&gt;uc&lt;/code&gt; on each one... for obvious reasons.  This is demonstrated in the example from [frozenwithjoy]&lt;/p&gt;
