For me, the code &lt;c&gt;print "yes\n" if $cdp =~ /0x01/;&lt;/c&gt; prints &lt;c&gt;yes&lt;/c&gt; which means that your regular expression is valid.  Can you show us a little more surrounding code?  What do you expect to find in your array when you are done?  Mine contains a &lt;c&gt;1&lt;/c&gt;, because that's what &lt;c&gt;m//&lt;/c&gt; returns on a successful match.
