&lt;p&gt;That's certainly one thing that tests should do. But there are many more also (e.g. do you get appropriate error reporting when pre-condition is not met on a function, does the application as a whole exhibit appropriate behaviour, etc.)&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;You might also want to look at [google://Design By Contract] as an alternative way of using pre-conditions, post-conditions and invariants in software development.&lt;/p&gt;</field>
