on Sep 21, 2001 at 00:16 UTC ( #113686=user: print w/ replies, xml ) Need Help??

Background

My first computer was a Commodore-64. I played lots of games and learnt to program in BASIC and 6502 M/C. Later, I got involved in the web while at Leeds University, back in the days of the CERN server and the X Mosaic browser.

After a short break in UMass I got a nice new NT box, EMWAC HTTPs and a static IP at UCR. I quickly discovered CGI and then Perl.

I use to work for the Inso Corporation (EBT), an XML content management company. I ran their tech support desk for Europe, and though the product did not support Perl, I used Perl at every possibility to get things done.

I now work for a multinational medical supply company. This involves mostly SAP R/3 ABAP programming and a little Linux/AIX, Perl and Apache.

Perl Stuff

I like Perl! Well you would hope so, seeing as I took time to join Perlmonks and write this bio here. I also like XML, you will note a lot of my nodes deal with Perl and XML, it's a bit of a hobby of mine.

I mostly work with Apache 1.3/2.x, and CGI/Perl/mod_perl, on *nix (AIX/RedHat - work and Debian - home).

I've done quite a bit of Perl/XML work, and found the XML::LibXML and XML::LibXSLT modules in particular very powerful. This node Mega XSLT Batch job - best approach? is a good example of the kind of work I'm interested it.

Monks I've met

I must confess that the only monks I've actually met face to face are Davorg and DrHyde. I've exchanged a few emails with others, but living in the country-side is not good for joining a town based Mongers group. Though to my utter surprise there are other Perl user in my village.

Blog and other work...

Everyone seems to have a blog, so not to be out done I have a journal over on use perl; and a blog on my server. My modules can be found over on CPAN: XML::RSS::Tools, Log::Trivial, Config::Trivial and Config::Trivial::Storable.

Voting Booth?

My favourite poll on PerlMonks is ...

Your first Perl Book - the first one ever
Average number of caffeinated beverages per work day - the poll with the highest participation
My Thoughts on the New Voting/Experience System - the poll with the fewest votes cast
When I grow up, I want to be: - one of the polls with the fewest options
Perl 6 will primarily be: - the first one on Perl6
When I see a poll - one of the many polls about polls
