Hi Monks. I'm new to programming, Perl being my first computer language. I will soon begin a comp science degree, but for now, I'm dedicated to the Monastery and the llama book in hopes of swimming, rather than sinking through Perl :)
OK, time to change a few things. I'm not exactly "new" to programming and Perl, still a rookie for sure, but I've got a little over a year in, and I've finished the llama book!! ~does a little dance~ So, now that I'm swimming not sinking (well, more like doggy-paddling), I'll be attempting to get over the camel hump for a while. Thanks to all the Monks for my new venture, for helping me get my way through the first one and for being there for me period :))
OK, further update, I've been here for a few years now, and no I'm not quite up there with the likes of Excellent, Tried and True veterans yet, but, hopefully, some slight measurement of progression can be noted at this point. Most recently, I've taken to re-designing an old badly put-to-together trivia game, the new of version of which can be viewed on my scratch pad. :D
*blank, slightly irritated stare - behind a Mona Lisa type of smirk, masking underlying bitterness* oO
Also, I'm starting my own business, Rockware Interactive Technologies, doing website maintenance, development, technology conversion, etc. I recently did some contract work for This Monk, if you're interested and would like to hear about what a great job I did:D.
UPDATE2012 - 2013 (almost):
A day in the life............
Nicole: Great. I can get started as soon as I get an ftp access to your hosting provider's server....
Client: **blank stare**
Nicole: I need an ftp access into the folder where you have WordPress installed, dear....
Client: Ohhh! I see! I'm in the cloud. **big, proud smile**
Nicole: I'm in Atlanta.....Can I get that ftp access?
Client: **blank stare**
Nicole: How about the log in to your hosting account...let's just do that.
I love Van Gogh, Plato, Perl (duh), Descartes, Nietzsche, lying on cement contemplating human existence and laughing so hard my side hurts. At the moment, Perl is my new addiction, I find the intensity, power and creativity involved is uniquely magnetic. Also, as a not really new, but up till now forgotten addition, I'm madly in love with Don Quixote de la Mancha, the ingenious gentlemen, Sancho Panza, the unsung hero's hero, Dulcinea del Toboso, princess in theory, and Cervantes, for ingeniously creating an untimely masterpiece of life. By the way, thanks to this monk, who has a Don Quixote quote on his home node, which ultimately reminded me of a lost love and prompted this update.
I am probably the most neurotic person you'll ever meet, and to complicate matters even worse, I'm positive I have a mild (at the least) to possibly severe (at times) case of OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), about the most insignificant parts of daily life..(I'm still analyzing the weird look that guy gave me at the grocery store 5 years ago, and just what exactly could have occurred to make him upset with me). I strive to "keep the peace", meaning simply that because of the two traits I just mentioned, it's an incredibly horrible experience for me when someone is angry with me, or in the midst of any type of negative feeling towards me at all, whatsoever...so, I often try to prevent that from happening. In short, people..the "sweetness" that comes across in my interactions on-line (and in person for that matter), is absolutely genuine, not contrived for any reason other than my own sanity..as previously explained :) I LOVE to laugh, and to make others laugh. I believe no matter what terrible hardship may occur, or be occurring, if you can still laugh, you've got nothing to worry about...It's basically my "couch-time" in my "therapy" I refer to as life.
I've come to Perl Monks, to be part of a community with a common interest, Perl of course. I think the opportunity to share an interest and it's related involvements such as knowledge, insight, discussions, discoveries, support, the benefit of receiving the experience of those who have been where others are going and, of course, friendship is a wonderful privilege to be a part of. :)
I am a woman. I am so very sorry about this, but I am nonetheless, a woman. Apparently, this can be a, how shall we phrase it, "situational hazard", at times, but oh well...I live dangerously *shifty eyes*. Regardless of the pending doom resulting in such a blatant claim, I will do it, I will face the dangerous pits of Hell and all that is attached to it...I will declare my gender!! Oh yeah, danger is my middle name, baby. I'm a woman, I declare it and what's more?...I'm a geek, too!!! Voice Over:"What possible fate will await koolgirl after such an unorthodox, unbelievable, unimaginable and down right ballsy statement of fact? Find out next Sunday on Perl Monks:Male or Female:Reality Show Finale, starring....."
I'm usually bored smooshin' around the Monastery anyway, so feel free to Say Hello :D
