LanX has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi

Finally we got a representable collection of the commissioned video recordings of our last conference.

Unfortunately it turned out that we need to check every single detail and give bug reports to our partners ...

2 Tracks at 3 days in 6 formats is far too much material for me alone to check at my spare time after work

I would appreciate if you look thru the following playlists and give me feedback in this thread

http://act.yapc.eu/ye2012/recordings/index.html

I also prepared youtube playlist: (at least 2 vids lost the sound at conversion)

http://www.youtube.com/user/LanXPerl/videos?sort=da&flow=list&view=1

I think overall it's already in a very good state and I hope you may enjoy the videos. :)

Cheers Rolf

PS: Yes we will extend the playlists at act.yapc.eu with direct links to youtube soon.

    Hi,

can you tell what should someone look for when "checking" the movies?

    Best regards
    McA

Basic things like availability, completeness, technical flows ,...

Just gimme feedback if you're missing something ... like readable slides or sound. :)

    Hiya Rolf

Just looked at my talk "To infinity and beyond" (Tuesday 2nd track). Looks good, only issue is that the slides are 1-2 seconds ahead of the video. Slightly disconcerting, but not major

Looking forward to getting the final videos to link to :)

    many thanks

      Hi Clinton,

do all formats have this delay?

If you want I can integrate anchors in the playlist so you can already link to them.

And if there is interest I may prepare js-snippets to embed the playlistportion of a talk into personal page.

Please note that Uni Frankfurt will only host their formats for a year, especially the interactive flash and html5 solutions can't be reproduced w/o their server.

So better include our playlists which will be updated to link to all known and active servers.

      Cheers Rolf

yes same problem with my two talks, otherwise great.

In the Monday Lightning Talks, the first talk Quicktime is the complete LT session. I also note that the sheets on the right are just the intro-sheets from Leon, not from the speakers' talks.

    Enjoy, Have FUN! H.Merijn
This is also the case for the flash version and the youtube version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zOMKzDbdb4&list=PLgICPKNKWlgf1zTrxBFcqgydzpC7izxsZ&index=1&feature=plpp_video

Small thing, this video should be titled: "Perl Tutorials sucked" :)

Also, many thanks for uploading to youtube! :D
Uni Frankfurt copied what they could read from the slides.

As soon as I had the time to automate the youtube API (that is in November) all original informations from act should be synchronised automatically.

This video is actually in a bad condition, the transformation from quicktime produced a blue tint.

      Cheers Rolf

Huh, odd. I don't see a blue tint on youtube. Did you correct that already?

Another problematic one, "CGI must die" has no sound on youtube, but in the uni version it has:

On Wednesday sartak gave a talk on Roles and says he remembers there being a camera in that room, yet it isn't online. Do you know whom that camera belonged to and what happened with the recording?
Yep, that talk. And well, the question remains then: Whose camera was that and what happened with the recording? Or was that maybe just the normal gear they have there and left standing unattended?

    Selenium And Perl talk.

The camera is way off to one side and you can't see the slides. I would guess its a bad recording and not anything fixable at this point. But thought I would point it out just in case my guess is wrong.

For me, the link shows a picture-in-picture recording, with the "big" picture being the slides and the small picture being the speaker, so I would consider this to be OK. But I noticed when watching some video on Android that at least one player there did display two streams side-by-side and cut off the left and right margins in a weird way that cut all slides in half, and the speaker almost. So this may or may not depend on the player. Maybe switching to the QT stream or the Flash works better for you than using the HTML5 player.
