in thread How many man-hours would you estimate you have invested in learning Perl?

I'm a female, something of a nerd and yes, a feminist (and even as I write this, I can FEEL the number of eyes rolling at that statement)

You know, I didn't :) I'm of the opinion that almost ever guy on here is a feminist, even the joke poster/defenders

If they are then they need to be acting like it and to be speaking up about the jerks and saying, "that stuff is unacceptable". When people are being jerks in a public forum, the only way to fight that - and to ensure that the forum is not taken to be supportive of the jerks - is to say, "that is wrong, that is unacceptable, it offends me, and you should find somewhere else to go if you want to say crap like that; we don't accept that here."

Don't feed the trolls only works when it's clear otherwise - through positive affirmation by a majority - that the trolls are indeed trolls. It's not clear at Perlmonks. For instance the poll is still up and unchanged.

Has it ever occurred to you that the reason it is still unchanged is because the majority of people, men and women, so not see the anything worth changing?

Have you considered the possibility that positive affirmation here is that you were wrong to start this whole storm in a teacup in the first place?

That the troll here is you?

Yep, I have. I'm the one posting under my name. You, on the other hand, are afraid to claim your own words. I don't think there's any question here about who's trolling.

I made a statement. What I've gotten is garbage. This isn't any improvement on that.

*sigh* this isn't very reasonable, its a classical fallacy, silence doesn't mean acceptance/consent/endorsement

I've resisted several times the urge to shout obscenities at the various rude participant in this thread, but it would be rather pointless, all the poop flingers are immune to both reason and insults

      more fallacy

something said/implied doesn't agree with my philosophy, so I will shout and be rude so they'll be like me , now be like me! If you're not with me you're against me and you can all go to hell!

Oh great, now I'm exibiting microagression, I'm so unreasonable

Are you then saying that the correct response is...nothing? Say nothing at all? Let it slide "because we all know nobody here thinks that"? They why did someone say it?

I can't agree with you on silence not implying acceptance. Silence certainly implies stasis if not retrograde motion.

I'm gathering then that you think that flagging a condition that may adversely affect some users is a bad idea and shouldn't be done. Am I misunderstanding this?
