Feel free. Down-vote away ... I am indifferent to them.
And that's the root of the problem. You state you don't care about the votes, and thus our opinions, and yet you try to change our opinions again and again. Is it really so hard to see the disconnect?

Caring about our respective (grammatically speaking) opinions and caring about votes are two separate things. Just because they are often related does not mean they are always related. I do not see any disconnect. If he really cared about votes, he would post anonymously. Instead, he posts as himself, taking the hit.
The article was actually somewhat interesting and it reminded me of a commercial site I used to frequent that switched forums. In the new one, for those of us with beta access, instead of nicknames, our real names were displayed. It was a bit disconcerting, but it was also interesting to note how much more civil people were. Of course, nicknames were implemented before it went life, with the expected results.
And yeah, this crusade is wearing thin. But as per Do Not Feed the Trolls!!! and "They've got a cave troll!" you guys are in-effect enablers at this point. So, can you do it? Can you, LanX, et. al. actually ignore his next crusade post?? Hmm?

In general yes, in Perl Monks Discussion, where the guidelines explicitly encourage downvotes for disagreement, they shouldn't be different things.

You are acting like a petulant child who's just discovered that saying "shit" in front of his parents provokes a reaction.
It might mean a smack or being grounded, but any attention is good attention.
Most of us go through it, but grow out of it around say 4 or 5.

Bullshit. If it's merely "a comment, on an altogether unrelated forum, that [you] found to be interesting", then how, pray tell, is it related to Perl or PerlMonks?
The obvious answer is that it's a continuation of your tireless tilting at the windmill of anonymous posting on this forum. That is substantially more than just pointing out an interesting comment elsewhere on the net.
On the other hand, if it really is nothing more than a randomly-interesting comment on an unrelated forum that has nothing to do with Perl or PerlMonks, then it's off-topic for this site.
Either way, your insistence on flogging this greasy patch on the ground which may have once resembled a horse leads me to suspect that you're a bigger troll here than Anonymous Monk ever was. So, if the purpose is to get rid of trolls, how about we do away with posting by sundialsvc4 instead? | [reply] |
