But upgrading is usually the right answer, running known buggy software is just dumb.

If you have special requirements then you must make that clear in the question, not complain about the answers that you get.

    What makes you belive that new versions of software contain less bugs than older? It's never true unless software developers first priority is reducing technical dept. And known bugs are just better than unknown (however, I suspect there were several perl versions where bug rate is too hight. I think between 5.8.1 and 5.8.8)

    Of course, I was talking only about cases when I mentioned version in the question. The possible problem that it was not highlighted with big red font and put into title.
