tallwithblueeyes has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I have ActiveState Perl 64-bit v5.16.3 installed in Windows. When I use the module Google::Search, I get this error: overload arg '' is invalid at C:/Perl64/site/lib/Google/Search/ line 9. Any ideas on how to get around this?

      It does this without any code at all! use Google::Search; is all it takes to throw the error. The module seems to be installed correctly.
        I just installed Module Version: 0.028, and I don't get the error you get when I use Google::Search;. However, the POD has this:
        Google::Search - Interface to the Google AJAX Search API and suggestio +n API (DEPRECATED) NOTE: The Google AJAX Search API has been deprecated:
        Its a bug in the module,
        $ perl -e " use overload '' => sub{}; " $ perl -e " use warnings; use overload '' => sub{}; " overload arg '' is invalid at -e line 1. $ perl -we " use overload '' => sub{}; " overload arg '' is invalid at -e line 1.
        Its supposed to be  '""'
        If, as stated, it were "...(doing) this without any code at all!" there would be no reference to Ln 9 as the error source. Recheck your premises.

    I receive the same error with Strawberry Perl However, the failures occur in the tests, so I would log a bug against the module
