The image above is a trace, from a PC serial port, of the byte 0x2C. I did a screen capture from a logic analyzer, then annotated it to show how the bits are decoded.
The 0x2C was written to the serial port with the following Perl statement:
syswrite( $SP, pack 'C', 0x2C );
My real job is the software that runs on bare silicon. Perl is a great tool for creating tools to make my real job easier.
