How sad it is to see, the he that is not me, become the thing that he has long decried.
The annuated bore, crying for what went before; those lost days of his rose tinted youth.

So blind he cannot see, his own bigotry; his intolerance of those with whom he disagrees.
He thinks he is the man; he thinks he has a plan, to suppress the source of his jealousy.

Although he tries to hide, whilst he is being snide, to protect his once held reputation.
It doesn't take ESP, to see that it is he, despite his lukewarm refutation.

With his naughties: "Hate MS" meme; and linux everywhere dream; he doesn't realise, what he has become.
Despite his tender age, he's really turned the page; now both a dinosaur, and utterly dumb.

It seems we may be wrong, to attribute to just one man; he appears to be their trojan horse.
Hiding in the shadows; quaking from the light; it seems that there are others. But, of course.

Is this a concerted campaign; to restore their once held fame; and do so without sullying their name?
But what about the horse? Doesn't he realise their course? When they fail; he takes all their blame!

What isn't yet clear, is: did he volunteer? Did he come back, just to fall upon his sword.
Or did they pat him on the back; as they slowly pushed him back; their's to use, and then discard.

And yet they, that would-be band of brothers, heroes renewed, white knights, once upon; still hide.
Skulking, lurking, yip-yip-yipping; sniping at our heals; unbalanced by their wounded pride.

Maybe the gods should ban both of you until you learn to get along.

For now, a haiku from here and me is all I have:

    enlightenment lived
    coerced upon their fellows
    call for growth dismissed

    But updates may follow.

I had to look up 'annuated.' That doesn't happen to me very often (in English).

Giving this person so much attention is the wrong thing to do. If you all would ignore the troll, they would not have anything to respond to. The problem is that you validate the troll by feeding them like this. Sure, you may self-congratulate yourself for being clever, but in the end you admit that you are scared of what the troll has to say.

You're right, he clearly loves the attention, and I did ignore him for years. There's only one problem with that: PerlMonks is not just a discussion forum, but also a long-standing repository of good Perl information. People who put a lot of effort into it don't want to see it cluttered up with bad info that makes Perl look confusing and stupid to the newcomer.

I was thinking about Usenet, which I used regularly for more than a decade. Most Usenet groups were entirely unmoderated, and there were plenty of trolls, so the only way to deal with them was for everyone to ignore them. I guess we just didn't worry about whether an ignored troll posted a bunch of nonsense to a group like comp.lang.perl.misc. Maybe we worry about that here too much, I don't know. I'd actually prefer to go back to ignoring -- it's much less trouble -- but I want to do my part to maintain the quality of a site that's made me a better programmer.

yeah well on usenet there were no votes or voting ... give the people the illusion that their opinions matter, and they'll be like: well, thats enough of that, its been almost eight years, it reached the boiling point four years ago, wtf now I don't even

Hey hasn't that guy been ostracized from Perlmonks several times already? What exactly do you think this poem is going to do? Express your frustration that you can't handle him? There you go, projecting yourself again, BullyUk. How does it feel being all alone in your ivory tower?

You're right, it's sad to see PM in decline. But good work on your bullying and the absence of the gods.
