I just recently almost finished training as of 2015, mainly using Java, C# and such. I decided to get into Perl out of necessity while using PFsense's version of NanoBSD, which does not support Ruby or such things without major headaches.
I like perl, it reminds me of PHP, but more comfortable in some areas.
