jakeeboy has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I've been searching for some articles about writing Daemons and haven't been too sucessful. I was wondering if people have some URLS to articles about writing them. Doesn't necessarily have to be about Perl Daemons just the theory and same sample code. Please let me know if anyone has any articles out there. Thanks

The Perl Cookbook has good info on this, and so does the Advanced Perl book. However, you will usually be better off starting with something on CPAN like Net::Daemon or Net::Server or Net::ServerGeneric.

perlipc is a good place to start. And if you know C the source of Vixie Cron can be rather illuminating as well, as would Apache.

Did you check SysAdmin Magzine or Dr. Dobbs'?

    perl -p -e "s/(?:\w);([st])/'\$1/mg"

And...just in case you missed it: perldoc -q daemon has the basic recipe for writing a daemon.

[Discipulus]: yes LanX.. is so good to be appreciated (I fortunately have a big self estimation that compensate)
[LanX]: you can manipulate a html tree by addressing and replacing so called document objects (DOM) and from my experience the same methods can be used with any XML, though I didn't test all browsers yet
LanX just joking, playing "ego judo"
[marto]: good morning all
[Corion]: Hi marto!
[marto]: the race to the bottom continues, many people lost their job yesterday as a client moves to another outsourcer
[LanX]: brexit or perlxit ?
[Corion]: Ow, marto :-/ I hope you aren't affected (except for the looming dread of more work for the same pay)
[marto]: unrelated
