Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I had purchased windows me recently and was looking to install it. I had some minor issues with error messages, so I contacted hp tech support for assistance, was adviced due the fact I had error messages, needed to ormat & recover system prior to downloading windows me. Well, I have done this, but now my rpg, "Asheron's Call" is having difficult time staying on line. I continue to freeze or get booted out of game. I have tried everything that "AC" support reccomends, but to no avail. I NEED HELP! Posssibly, there is a download I am missing that assists "AC". Please, asap, my husband is having withdrawel systems and it is not good.

I think the problem is you need to use something like FreeBSD. I haven't had a windows problem since, and Perl works a lot better too. =P

Sorry, I don't seem to understand the question. What has a problem with Windows ME being installed got to do with Perl? And surly you've got the original media and don't need to download it (where from for starters).
Unless you mean you are having trouble installing Activestate Perl on your Windows ME machine? Is this the case?

[ambrus]: Corion: I have no problem with exit codes and shell pipeline. My problem is that the current process requires a lot of manual intervention from me, including editing the source codes.
[ambrus]: (Also a lot of manual intervention by two or three other co-workers, who do other parts of the process.)
[ambrus]: Some of the manual part is unavoidable, but not all.
[choroba]: LanX was there a way to recover the numbers from the remaining information?
[Corion]: LanX: Ow ;)
Discipulus manual work: i just tell the same to my boss: every time the quick solution is to assign some manual data entry task to my group.. because we have not direct access to many databases here..
[LanX]: point is: in high speed trade each bank has to remember what he has to get from the others... so dresdner got billed for losses but couldn't claim gains
Discipulus is this the IT?
[Corion]: Discipulus: Well, in many cases it doesn't make sense to build an interface and complicated program just to enter 20 rows into a database ;) But yes, automating data imports should pay off in the long run
