in reply to interchange for e-commerce?

Earlier today, I was lurking around the ActiveState webpage (yes, I know they're pretty grey area around the Monastery) looking for the Win32::Lanman module, when I came across something very interesting:

Business-CreditCard ver. 0.1 Validate/generate credit card checksums/names

I thought to myself: "Who in the hell would want that?" Apparently, some people have a need for this module. I don't do the e-commerce thing, but it might be worth looking into what this module can do. It seems to me that it would a nice thing to do (as a favor to the servers that might end up validating the credit cards) to do a small check to see if the credit card is valid (hehehe, I remember the old grade school jokes of entering 1111-2222-0000-1111) before passing over the credit card data over to your CC clearing house.

Best of luck with your business venture,

[perldigious]: but... but... perldigious is the unvirtuous kind of lazy in this case. :-)
[perldigious]: Just kidding. Thanks 1nickt, I'll go ahead and do it the right way. An extra set of brackets and a little extra indentation isn't too much to ask.
[karlgoethebier]: perldigious: perhaps a block if you are paranoid ;-)
[choroba]: but undef %hash and %hash = () both work, too, but the first one keeps the memory allocated, while the latter makes it available for other parts of the program.
[choroba]: iirc
[perldigious]: karlgoethebier: Well it is a pretty old and complicated (for me) bit of code I wrote (poorly by my current standards), so I'm expecting everything to break when I add the scoping and find out what else is undesireably scope changed. :-)
