And you think like a programmer :). This isn't meant to be insulting (as I'm sure it might be construed, although probably not by someone who thinks like a programmer) but it occurred to me that the way you honed in on that little logical gem is pretty good evidence that you have experience thinking like a computer (although the fact that you found it significant/amusing is wonderfully human).

[stevieb]: beech already found a thing I don't like... it'll take time to sort out some new methods to deal with little/big endian ;)
[stevieb]: yeah, going to have to make some changes when reading a 'word'. I digress, for now
[stevieb]: everything depends on how the I2C hardware at the other end returns. Instead of forcing a user to bitshift, I think I'll add methods for read_word_big() and read_word_little() or something
