Make Supersearch more obvious

by kudra (Vicar)
on Jul 31, 2000 at 12:22 UTC ( [id://25222]=monkdiscuss: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

New users are often told to look for answers before asking, and are frequently pointed to existing threads. But a question may be asked out of an inability to locate the previous thread rather than a lack of desire to investigate. Although it is not too hard to find information in Q&A, looking through Seekers can be difficult, given the poor descriptions posts often have.

It isn't very obvious to new users that the Super Search exists to search node content. It may not even be obvious that the default search isn't this type of search. Making it clear that this search exists would help people help themselves.

One place to add it might be at the bottom of the standard search return for multiple results, near the CPAN search. Another place could be in the title-bar near the default search. The Perl Monks FAQ and the Site How To could make mention of it.

I would like to add one more thing, we should beable to vote more than once on a node.
Considering I did not know about Super Search I find this node very helpfull in it self and should get more than one of my votes :)

On a first glance I'd say yes, it's unfair that I can give a good node and an excellent node only the same vote-up.

But there might be a problem when it comes to flame threads, and god knows this site has some (I have only the link to this one handy, but there are more). Consider what might be going on if some monks might start a showdown with their votes ...

      No offence meant to anyone!

It's just that one man one vote is ok, in my own humble opinion.

      Andreas

P.S.: No objections against kudra's suggestion. I agree.

I didnt realize any of this until reading your post, Kudra, and hence I agree wholeheartedly here.
